『勝手に生きろ！』→『酔いどれ詩人になる前に』

Charles Bukowskiの『FACTOTUM』はタマに読みたくなるmy愛読書のうちの一冊。だらっとどこから読み始めてどこで読み終わっても良いのです。志があるんだかないんだかわかんない主人公の総じて情けない感じが、なんだか最近のニッポンっぽい。このお話の舞台は1940年代のアメリカなんだけど。

でも、最近のニッポンでは、こんなこと言う人はいないと思う。

If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, jobs. And maybe your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery, isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance. この『FACTOTUM』の邦訳版のタイトルは『勝手に生きろ！』っていうんだけど…どうなの？　ちょっとちがう気がするんだけどなあ…。

で、『FACTOTUM』が映画化されて、その邦題が『酔いどれ詩人になる前に』っていうんだけど…どうなの？　えーこれもまたちょっとちがう気がするんだけどなあ…。

『アウトサイダー』『ランブルフィッシュ』の頃から密かにファンなマット・ディロンが、主人公チナスキー＝ブコウスキーを演じているとのことで、楽しみです。若いころはぴりっとしててカッコよかったマットも今やいい感じにオサーンになって、役にピッタリな気がします！　マット・ディロンと言えば邦題『聖者の眠る街』（この邦題もクソだ。なんで原作の通りに『フォート・ワシントンの天使』ってしなかったんだろう？）っていう映画があるのですが、これ、あんまり紹介されなさがちで。共演のダニー・グローヴァーもすばらしいです。
